About our activities

Our sessions challenge the notion that people with dementia can’t learn and enjoy new things. Our members can and learn and have fun, as long as there are no distractions and delivery is clear.

Our classes are run by professional tutors who are skilled in delivering training to our members and are experts in a variety of activities such as art, gardening, golf, archery, singing, drumming, tennis, volleyball and pottery.

We have a monthly programme of trips to local venues. Previous trips have included:

  • Woodhorn Colliery Museum

  • Kirkley Hall Zoo

  • Pantomime at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House

  • National Trust Gibside

  • Birds of Prey Centre

We also hold social events such as our Christmas party and our annual Ceilidh where members and their families can celebrate, dance and enjoy time together.

Costs

Each session currently costs £12. You can pay as you go or via monthly invoice (or BACS). All the Board members are approachable and would be happy to discuss any individual financial restrictions that may hinder attendance. In most cases, booking for sessions is required and members only pay for sessions attended (although Family Members who join in an activity are invited to contribute towards the cost of materials).
